Chief Medical Officer
Dr. Middleman serves as our Chief Medical Officer. Dr. Middleman has practiced medicine at PBM since July of 1998. He is an active clinical and community leader and serves as a PBM managing partner. His vast experience in laboratory medicine was gained through his leadership at institutions including Baylor Medical Centers (Grapevine, Garland and Uptown), Kindred Hospital of Dallas and Baylor University Medical Center. Dr. Middleman received his BA in biology at the University of Texas and his MD from the University of Texas Medical School. He earned Chief Resident during residency training at Emory University Hospital Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine. Dr. Middleman has been an invited lecturer, published on many important medical topics, and is a member of the Texas Medical Association and Tarrant County Medical Society. He is a Fellow Member of the College of American Pathologists as well as a CAP Inspector.
Scientific Director, Infectious Disease
Dr. Cavagnolo is a board-certified microbiologist with 30 years of experience directing both large reference and hospital-based microbiology laboratories. He completed his post-doctoral fellowship in Public Health and Medical Laboratory Microbiology at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. Dr. Cavagnolo was the previous Clinical Director of Microbiology at the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center, St. Paul Hospital. He has extensive experience in both routine and esoteric procedures.
Technical Director, Molecular Pathology
Dr. Champion, a technical expert in Next Generation Sequencing, served as Assistant Director of the Greenwood Genetic Center, Molecular Diagnostic Laboratory, where she also was a clinical molecular Fellow, before joining med fusion. Well published in multiple peer-reviewed articles, Kristen holds a Ph.D. from the Medical University of South Carolina and a Bachelor of Engineering in Biomedical Engineering from Vanderbilt University.
Scientific Director, Molecular Infectious Diseases Director, Medical Affairs Clinical Associate Professor, Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine, Texas A&M University
Dr. Dhiman is a scientific expert in Molecular Infectious Disease and Women’s Health. She is also actively engaged in Clinical Trials with specific interest in rapid molecular diagnostics for sepsis. She previously served as Clinical Microbiologist at Summa Health System and Scientific Director, Clinical Microbiology at Akron Children’s Hospital at Akron, OH. She completed her Clinical Microbiology fellowship training at Mayo Clinic, Rochester, MN. She is an active member of Infectious Disease Society of America (IDSA) and American Society of Microbiology (ASM), serves as a scientific reviewer for multiple international scientific journals, received a number of honors and awards, and is well published. She received her Ph.D. in Biochemistry from Postgraduate Institute of Medical Education and Research, Chandigarh, India.
Scientific Director, Cytogenetics
Dr. Gupta is an expert in microarray gene chip technology and its implementation in constitutional and cancer cytogenetics. He completed his clinical cytogenetics fellowship training at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center. During his fellowship, he built and developed a molecular cytogenetics lab using cutting-edge molecular tools to analyze complex genetic diseases. In the past, he served as the Director of the Microarray Core Lab at the University of Texas Health Science Center, San Antonio, Texas. Dr. Gupta is focused on timely and accurate reporting of patient results processed in a state-of-the-art clinical cytogenetics laboratory.
Scientific Director, Chemistry & Toxicology
Dr. Kumar previously served as the Clinical Chemist at Beaumont Health System at Royal Oak, MI where he provided technical direction for the Automated Chemistry, Special Testing, STAT, and Ancillary Testing laboratories. While he was an Associate Professor at Oakland University, William Beaumont School of Medicine, he was both mentor and educator for Chemical Pathology Fellows, pathology residents, and medical students. Currently, he serves on the ACCENT Review Board for the American Association for Clinical Chemistry (AACC). He is Board-Certified in Clinical Chemistry (ABCC), and a Fellow of National Academy of Clinical Biochemistry (NACB). Dr. Kumar completed his Clinical Chemistry fellowship training at Mayo Clinic, Rochester, MN and earned a Ph.D. in Biochemistry from the Postgraduate Institute of Medical Education and Research, Chandigarh, India. His expertise includes Clinical Chemistry, Immunology, Liquid Chromatography and Mass Spectrometry. He is focused on providing the best quality results for patients and interacting with physicians to ensure outstanding communication.
